have suffered a heavy blow ahead of next week’s Champions League clash with Newcastle United at St James’ Park. Paris Saint-Germain will be without Nuno Mendes for Wednesday’s Champions League match against Newcastle United.

The Portuguese left back suffered a hamstring injury in July. PSG announced yesterday that after “further medical examinations and more in-depth studies”, Mendes will undergo surgery on Friday in Finland. Lan and is expected to be out of action for 4 months. Mendes joined PSG on loan from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2021 before making the move permanent last year for £34 million. Meanwhile, the French giants hope talisman Kylian Mbappé can feature at St James’ Park, despite his injury, this weekend.The 24-year-old limped off the field in the first half of the 4-0 win over Marseille on Sunday after being injured in a tackle by Leonardo Balerdi. After the match, it was confirmed that Mbappé had suffered a “minor ankle sprain”.

However, Mpbappe trained indoors on Wednesday to revive hopes of being involved in the match against Newcastle. PSG, who face Clermont Foot on Saturday against Newcastle, said they would provide a further fitness update on Friday.

Eddie Howe’s side host Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday before turning their attention to PSG. They come into the match after eliminating British and European champions Manchester City from the Carabao Cup last night.
