Journalist Rory Smith has admitted that he doesn’t see Bodo/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen getting the Rangers’ job.

Smith was speaking about the situation at Ibrox on Monday Night Club after Michael Beale was sacked by the Gers.

Rangers know they have a lot of work to do in the Scottish Premiership with a seven-point gap to make up for the top spot.

Three losses in their first seven games were a terrible start and one that ultimately cost Michael Beale his job.

They face a tough task in getting through the Champions League group stage against a PSV Eindhoven side looking to avenge last season. However, the nature of their two-game defeat will be particularly worrying.

Their Europa League campaign got off to a better start with a 1-0 win over Real Betis, but it wasn’t enough to save Beale’s job.

The Rangers are currently looking for another manager, but it looks like Kjetil Knutsen won’t be the one.

The 55-year-old has had a very successful spell in Norway but faces competition from Chris Wilder and Frank Lampard for the role.

Speaking about who could take up the role at Rangers, Smith said:
“I think [Kjetil] Knutsen is someone they think could be considered because it’s the right kind of profile. “I don’t think it will be Knutsen, I think it’s a big step up from Bodo/Glimt to Rangers.”

Knutsen is increasingly famous in the sports world after turning Bodo/Glimt into one of the most attractive teams in Europe.

Players like Rosenborg and Molde dominated the Norwegian top flight for the past ten years before the arrival of Knutsen and Bodo/Glimt.

Playing an exciting style of football, Knutsen led the provincial team to consecutive championships.

They have entered European competition and Knutsen now boasts a perfect record against Celtic after two wins in the European league.

It is unlikely that Rangers, despite this stellar record, will hire Knutsen as their next manager. Despite his success, it would be a big step from Norway to Rangers.

Instead, the club appear to be in no hurry to appoint the next manager and will know how important this decision will be.

According to the Herald, the 22-year-old striker should get a chance with the Scottish League One side who, like the former Scotland youth international, have been in decline in recent seasons.

The report claims the striker will have the chance to impress Hamilton boss John Rankin as Josh McPake looks to make a comeback after leaving Rangers this summer.

Gers reduced the striker’s contract to one year in the hope that this player can leave and find a permanent home after a series of loan spells away from the club. Short-term termA

Combine that with reports of a serious attitude problem, Josh McPake’s time at Rangers appears to be coming to an end and despite signing a three-year contract in 2021, the winger has been dropped in this summer.

It was a far cry from the famous teenager released by Steven Gerrard in 2019, when Josh McPake came off the bench against St Joseph’s in a Europa League qualifier.

Interestingly, outgoing Rangers manager and then Ibrox assistant Michael Beale praised the player at the time and insisted he had a “bright future” in the game.

With England manager Josh McPake sacked this summer, predictions are yet to come true as the winger looks to strike a deal with Hamilton.

This match against St Joseph’s will be the winger’s only appearance in a Rangers shirt and let’s hope, for the player’s sake, that things improve at New Douglas Park.
