Celtics release big Kristaps Porzingis injury update
Kristaps Porzingis suffered from plantar fasciitis during the NBA season, but the Latvian big man made a full recovery in time for his first season with the Boston Celtics. Porzingis withdrew from the World Cup to ensure his injury would heal, and the decision paid off. During his Media Day press conference, Porzingis discussed the injury and his recovery process. He revealed that he felt comfortable without any physical limitations ahead of the season. According to NBA reporter John Karalis, skipping the World Cup has helped his leg return to 100%.
“The medical staff did a great job of bringing me up slowly and now that I’m about to go to training camp, I’m absolutely fine; ready to go,” Porzingis said in his press release. “I think it all started because I changed my shoes in the summer. I think that’s what’s causing the foot to be a little tender… The smart decision is to sit back and make sure the foot has recovered before the season starts.
According to NBA writer Taylor Snow, Celtics general manager Brad Stevens is pleased with Porzingis’ progress.

NBA NEWS AND RUMORS:
Updates from Kristaps Porzingis and the Boston Celtics
Although it helped his plantar fasciitis heal, Porzingis’ decision to miss the World Cup required a huge emotional sacrifice.
“It was terrible that I couldn’t play for my country in the World Cup,” Porzingis said. “It really hurt my soul… but I knew it was the right decision. I’m glad I made this difficult decision at the time. Now I’m 100% ready to start the season.
A healthy Porzingis will make life much easier for Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. His unique skill set could make the Celtics a nightmare matchup for their Eastern Conference foes. Tatum spoke with NBC Sports Boston about the impact Porzingis will have.
“I think he just adds another versatile dynamic,” Tatum said. “As tall as he is, he can stretch the ground. I don’t think we necessarily have a presence as big and talented as him on the offensive side…I’m really excited to have him on our team.Needless to say, Porzingis has complete confidence in Boston’s championship aspirations. The 7-foot-3 center reflected on his new team and the ambitious goals it has set for itself.
“Add me, add Jrue now…it’s clear what we’re trying to achieve here,” Porzingis said. “That is the only goal… We have to live this life every day.”
Porzingis had opportunities to play elsewhere with a potentially larger role and contract, but he passed them on to Beantown. With his foot healed and his team ready to compete for a championship, Porzingis will have plenty of motivation heading into the new season.
