‘We still trust him’ Selles backs Reading FC goalscorer Button after 3-1 defeat to Northampton Town
READING FC boss Ruben Selles has defended Royals goalkeeper David Button following Tuesday night’s defeat to Northampton Town.
By scoring three goals on the evening, including two before half-time, the Royals suffered their sixth league defeat of the season.
Regarding failure, Selles said:
“A difficult night, a difficult night. Another early part of the game that we weren’t ready for.
“The authorization is very short. When we have to keep the ball on the ground, we play long. It seems like we’ve been doing things the wrong way. After that, it’s hard to come back at this point in this championship.
“The goalkeeper made two great saves and shortly after we conceded the second goal. In the second half we were there and scored the goal. We had a chance to equalize, but when you chase the game in the last minutes you can make these mistakes.
“We need to demand more and be more agile in finishing. »
It was a difficult evening for goalkeeper David Button, who should have done better given the three goals Reading conceded that evening.
“Today was probably not his night but we still trust him,” the Spaniard explained.
“He was great for us in a lot of ways and kept us going. We can all have a bad day, we can accept it but trust in him is always 100%.

SUPPORTERS of Reading Football Club have praised Reading District Council for granting Asset of Community Value (ACV) status to their Select Car Hire stadium. STAR (Supporters’ Trust at Reading) applied for LCA registration earlier this year, with the support of Sell Before We Dai, a group of supporters set up to force a change of ownership at the club.
An LCA is land or buildings whose current use, in the opinion of the local authority, would promote the social welfare or social interests of the local community and it is reasonable to believe that the use Similar or other uses of this kind shall continue.
This decision means that the property owner cannot dispose of it before the expiry of the specified period.
Sarah Turner, spokesperson for Sell Before We Dai and president of STAR, said:
“We are grateful for Reading Borough Council’s support and helpful decision in relation to our ACV application.
“The We Dai Pre-Sale campaign is not only intended to pressure owners Dai Yongge to sell, but also to protect the long-term future of the football club. This includes ensuring our stadium remains the home of Reading FC, and not an economic asset for the wrong and unsuitable owners.
“We have seen what has happened to other clubs in similar situations to ours where the future of their stadium is not assured. Achieving Asset of Community Value status gives us a glimmer of hope during the toughest time for fans in 40 years.
“We are increasingly concerned about the fate of the 152-year-old club due to continued financial mismanagement by owners Reading FC. We hope that today’s announcement will help highlight its appeal to to any potential new owners as we continue to campaign for change at the club.
