GWS ruckman flies west as Giants secure draft compensation – AFL Trade News

GWS ruckman Matthew Flynn’s move to the free-agent West Coast has been confirmed, with the Giants securing Pick 40 as compensation.

An unrestricted free agent, Flynn exercised his right to join his second club after 33 games in orange and charcoal.

Flynn will wait six years on the Giants roster before making his debut and will start the 2023 season as GWS’s main driver ahead of a breakthrough campaign from Kieren Briggs.

With Briggs taking the top spot on the selection sheet, the Giants have allowed Flynn to explore his options this season, with West Coast and Melbourne expressing interest.

The Eagles have won the race for the GWS Academy graduate, officially signing the 26-year-old on Friday night. Hitting free agency allows the Giants to be compensated for the loss of Flynn, with the late second-round selection falling to Pick 40.

The AFL has received and approved the necessary documents for the signing of unrestricted free agent Matthew Flynn with the West Coast Eagles.

There are enough magpies to defeat the giant
ByGreg Baum
There are giants, and there are giants. In a fierce competition, the team of the season won against the team of the moment. The Magpies had their army, but the Giants had the tsunami and they marched into the preliminary final strong.

After Jesse Hogan’s goal 19 minutes into the final period, neither team put another goal behind, and that suited the Magpies just fine. Giants captain Toby Greene may have won it for his team with a sensational banana kick in the final moments, but Steele Sidebottom is where he has always been alongside the Magpies, in attack. It’s breathtaking.

GWS was comically outnumbered everywhere in and around the MCG, except where it counted, on emerald green. There, the Magpies’ supplementary legend failed to make his presence felt for more than half as the Giants picked up Collingwood’s patented running game and looked ready to go. advance to the finals.Nick Daicos and Toby Greene.

Giants angry over Daniels’ late concussion test
Giants manager Adam Kingsley and his assistants are angry over a medical call requiring outfielder Brent Daniels to be evaluated for his head injury late in the game, which kept him out for the remainder of the game. the last minutes.

Kingsley revealed that Daniels was forced to take a test to assess his head injury five minutes before the end of the match and he “passed with ease”.

“I did not witness the incident, but from what I believe, it was not necessary to take him off the field,” Kingsley said.

The Giants missed their run in the crucial final minutes of the game.

“It hurt us, we missed his foot speed and footwork,” Kingsley said.

Kingsley wants his players to build on their achievements in 2024.

He was miserable after the defeat and knew his players would have to suffer for a while while they digested the defeat. “We are just one point away from the final,” Kingsley said.Magpies coach Craig McRae.

He wants the Giants to come back better next year.

“We need to make sure we maintain that level and improve on it,” Kingsley said.

“The items are quite similar. I feel like they have passages and we have passages. None of us finished our work.

“In a one-point game, it can go either way. You look at each part and wonder if you could have done better. Can we save the goal? Did you gain points or hold our territory better? “Our boys will replay all the moments in their heads for a very, very long time, but that is the nature of the preliminary final.”

McRae also refused to rule out Taylor Adams overcoming a hamstring injury to compete in the final.

But he admitted it will depend “ultimately” on whether Adams has enough recovery time to compete.

The Magpies will give him as much time as possible.

“Take each part in”:
McRae
Collingwood coach Craig McRae told his players to take advantage of the opportunity during AFL Grand Final week and he also praised his club’s fans for getting his team across the finish line. There will be a storm around you and we just sit in the middle. “We have one left. I know we partied hard and there will be certain sections that will want to judge that, but our whole story, over the last two years, has been to take our fans with us.

“Now I’m talking to the fans. We couldn’t have won this game without their support. 97,000 people thank you very much. “The Magpies have dragged us over the edge and we love you so much.”Daniel McStay.

McStay may be unlucky, McRae admits
By Roy Ward
Magpies coach Craig McRae has not yet ruled out Dan McStay but admits it looks likely he will miss the final with a knee injury.

McStay was hampered in the second half and was eventually substituted. McRae said he wasn’t sure about the terminology, but it was “MCL or something like that” — if it was MCL, it would be a knee injury.
