Patrick Mahomes could add to his already heavy load in Week 7 for the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are playing the Los Angeles Chargers in an important AFC West matchup.
According to Adam Schefter with ESPN, Dave Toub, the Chiefs special teams coach, said Mahomes is the team’s backup punter against the Chargers. Starting punter Tommy Townsend is currently battling a left knee injury and might not be avoiding against the Chargers.
ICYMI: Chiefs’ special teams coach Dave Toub revealed this week that, with the team’s regular punter Tommy Townsend dealing with a left knee injury, Kansas City’s backup punter is … Patrick Mahomes.
According to MaxPreps, Mahomes averaged 37.8 yards per punt in high school. His longest punt was 71 yards. Mahomes placed six of his 29 punts inside of the 20-yard line.
The Chargers special teams will definitely be worried about the fake if Mahomes is lined up as a punter.

Taylor Swift is back in Kansas City.
The pop superstar, 33, spent some downtime with fellow Kansas City Chiefs fans before watching beau Travis Kelce take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
In photos shared by retired NFL quarterback Bernie Kosar from a Chiefs pregame party, Swift was all decked out in Chiefs colors — plus her signature red lip — as she posed with the former athlete.
“Watching the Browns game with @taylorswift pre KC game,” Kosar wrote on Instagram as he shared a selfie and another posed shot with Swift.
The “Lavender Haze” singer appeared to be at the home of a Chiefs fan as she smiled and gave a thumbs-up while posing with Kosar.
Sunday’s Chiefs game marks the fourth time Swift has watched Kelce, 34, play in the month since they were first spotted together.
She first attended a game at Arrowhead Stadium on Sept. 24 as the Chiefs took on the Chicago Bears, and was later photographed leaving with the tight end in his convertible.
The following week, she brought along a few A-lister friends, including Sophie Turner, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, to watch Kelce defeat the New York Jets 23-20 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. She also hung out with Brittany Mahomes, wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
On Oct. 13, she returned to Arrowhead Stadium to cheer on Kelce again, and was spotted hanging with Brittany Mahomes again, as well as Kelce’s parents, Donna and Ed Kelce.

Last weekend, the lovebirds were spotted out multiple times in New York City as they enjoyed a date night and even made a surprise visit to Saturday Night Live to support Swift’s friend and the night’s musical guest, Ice Spice.
On Wednesday’s episode of Kelce’s podcast, New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, the Chiefs star divulged more details about their headline-making weekend as he said it was “spectacular” to be back at SNL.
He said he and Swift “showed up at SNL having the idea of supporting Ice Spice. Her and Taylor are good friends.”
As for his own involvement in the season 49 premiere episode — he made a short cameo in a skit about what his brother, Jason Kelce, called “Swift mania in the NFL” — he said it was “overwhelming” and he “blacked out.”
“Everybody was like, ‘Yeah, no, you killed it.’ And I watched it over and I still don’t really know if I said what I was supposed to,” he recalled.
During the podcast episode, he also touched on how it felt to see Swift meet his dad at his game.
“You know Dad like I know Dad,” Travis said to his brother, adding, “This is a terrifying conversation. I felt terrible for Taylor for being in this.”
All joking aside, Travis called Ed the “best f—— dad in the world” as he shared more about what he and the “Karma” singer chatted about.
“You can see in this picture all he’s doing is just absolutely pumping her up,” Travis said before revealing that Ed has started listening to Swift’s music “a little more” given his son’s budding romance.
Travis ended the segment with a funny shout-out to Ed: “Thanks, Dad, for not making me look bad, partner.”
