New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave got arrested on Monday night, per Nick Underhill of New Orleans Football. Olave was popped for recklessly operating a motor vehicle, traveling 35 miles per hour over the speed limit.
The second-year pro did not resist arrest and will get processed at Kenner City Jail. The expectation is for Olave to be released shortly after.
Chris Olave, the 11th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft, has 39 catches for 471 yards and one touchdown in seven games this season. The Ohio State product struggled in his most recent outing, snagging seven passes for 57 yards on a whopping 15 targets.
Olave is fresh off a fantastic rookie campaign, finishing fourth in AP Offensive Rookie of the Year voting. The 23-year-old posted 1,042 yards and four touchdowns on 72 catches.
If Chris Olave is to miss time, the New Orleans Saints would be out their top receiving option. Running back Alvin Kamara is second on the team in receptions, followed by two-time All-Pro Michael Thomas and undrafted second-year wideout Rashid Shaheed.
Outside Chris Olave, Thomas, and Shaheed, Keith Kirkwood is the only receiver on the team with a reception, while former third-round pick Lynn Bowden Jr. has one target. Shaheed and Kirkwood would become the primary beneficiaries if Olave were to miss time. Olave could get slapped by the NFL with a suspension or, at the very least, a hefty fine.
Second-year New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave finds himself in some hot water with law enforcement after an incident Monday night.
According to Saints insider Nick Underhill, Olave was rrested for reckless operation of a motor vehicle. The reports indicate that he was going 70 miles-per-hour in a 35 MPH zone. As of publication of this article, Olave was still in custody and being processed following his arrest. He did not resist and was cooperative with the arresting officer(s).
Olave and his Saints hosted the Jacksonville Jaguars this past Thursday night, losing for the fourth time in five games after a 2-0 start to the season. He put up seven receptions for 57 yards in the loss and has been darn good as a sophomore after the Ohio State product starred as a rookie.
The full details regarding Olave’s arrest are not yet known. But driving that much above the speed limit is an issue. It is to be taken seriously.
The No. 11 overall pick out of Ohio State back in 2022, Olave is a key centerpiece on offense for the Saints. He finished with north of 1,000 yards and four touchdowns en route to placing fourth in the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year voting.
As for this recent incident, there are not a ton of details available outside of the aforementioned report. We’ll have details when they are released.
