“I think he had a huge influence on that change at Spurs,” Carragher said via Leicestershire Live.
“The credit goes to the manager because that was his philosophy and style of play, but he played a big part in it.
“He took the number 10, which is the shirt of Harry Kane, probably the greatest player to ever play for Tottenham.
“I think at one point he wore the captain’s armband.
“He just has that type of personality, and you talk about moving up and going to a bigger club, sometimes it’s too much for the players and they can’t take it.
“It’s not a matter of ability but of mentality and he can do it.
“He accepted this and went to a bigger club.”
Maddison has settled in well at Spurs, who have achieved impressive results under new manager Ange Postecoglou this season.
The north London club are currently top of the Premier League table, thanks in part to the impact of the former Leicester man. since his arrival this summer.
Meanwhile, Leicester also lead their respective leagues, five points behind second-placed Ipswich Town, despite having played one game more.
Enzo Maresca’s side dropped just three points from their opening 12 matches, giving them a solid foundation for automatic promotion straight to the Premier League.
