Michigan football: Ohio State alerted TCU about potential sign theft
Ohio State, which called TCU before to the playoffs to warn them about possible sign-stealing by the Wolverines, is obviously very aware of Michigan football.
Another piece of information on the Michigan football sign-stealing controversy has surfaced, and I think it’s really funny.Another story from Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger claims that Ohio State informed TCU that Michigan might have stolen signage prior to the 2022 College Football Playoffs. This is a portion of Dellenger’s most recent report:
The Horned Frogs staff received phone calls from coaches across the nation shortly after the CFP revealed the 2022 semifinal matchups, which featured Georgia vs. Ohio State and TCU vs. Michigan. The coaches were aware of the fact that Michigan had a sophisticated sign-stealing system, which was well-known in the Big Ten coaching community. Before the calls, a large number of TCU employees were in the dark. TCU coaches were notified of the plan by coaches from a number of Big Ten universities, including Ohio State.
Funny thing is, stealing signs is not against the law. To make matters more hilarious, though, Ohio State coaches were phoning TCU, a club they could have played for the national championship, to provide support during Michigan’s game.
In order to support them against Michigan, Ohio State coaches called TCU, a team they could have played for the national championship.
It appears that Connor Stalions broke both the law by conducting in-person scouting and by having a network of other helpful people. However, there is still no proof that Jim Harbaugh or the Michigan football coaching staff were aware of the scheme.
Additionally, it seems as though Stalions might have accomplished this on his own to try and win over more members of the coaching staff if you read his 600-page manifesto about his dream to one day lead Michigan football.
It’s funny to me that Ohio State lost by 22 points despite knowing the same information as TCU.
Finally, why in the world didn’t these coaching staffs alter their signs if they were aware of the sign-stealing? That’s their stupidity, and if they haven’t changed much over the years, it’s unlikely that Michigan football even needed in-person guidance to do that.
