what a bad news for ohio state the super star have gone……

  1. Ohio State and January—a dreadful, horrible, awful, awful month

The Ohio State athletic department would certainly like to forget the first month of 2023.

Every year at the end of the calendar, it seems like people say, “This year is over! It’s going to be our year next year!” When I hear something like that, I’m usually suspicious. But then again, I’m just a grump.

Is everything else meant to miraculously improve just because the year changes? I apologize, but I am aware that is not how things operate. Though having such a gloomy outlook is certainly unhealthy, at least I’m lowering the bar so the inevitable letdown won’t hurt as badly.

I wasn’t ready for how horrible January was for Ohio State, even though I was bracing myself for the worst. Though there were a few highlights, the entire month wasOhio State v Indiana

Georgia defeats Ohio State 42–41 in the College Football Playoff Semifinal.

The only part of the game that really mattered happened in 2023, even though the most of it took place in 2022. At the start of the fourth quarter, Ohio State was ahead 38–24, but the Buckeyes were unable to sustain their lead. With less than a minute remaining in the contest, Adonai Mitchell of Georgia grabbed a 10-yard touchdown pass from Stetson Bennett to take the lead.

Ryan Day believed that settling for a 50-yard field goal was a wise move, which only serves to exacerbate the setback. With 28 seconds remaining, C.J. Stroud raced 27 yards down to Georgia’s 31 yard line. Over the next three plays, the Buckeyes gained no further yards.

Purdue defeats Ohio State men’s basketball 71-69.

A few days later, Ohio State hosted the nation’s best team. Zed Key’s shoulder injury cost the Buckeyes dearly just minutes into the game, but his teammates were still able to pull away from the Boilermakers many times in the first half, leading by double digits until Purdue cut the deficit to 36-33 at the break.

With several ties and lead changes, the second half was a back-and-forth game. With 12 seconds remaining, Fletcher Loyer made a three-pointer to give Purdue a 71-69 lead, giving the Boilermakers their first lead of the game. Ohio State came close to pulling the trigger on their final possession but was unable to execute any meaningful plays.

Maryland defeats Ohio State men’s basketball 80-69.Iowa v Ohio State

It would be difficult for Ohio State to win a difficult road test at Maryland, even if the Buckeyes had defeated Purdue a few nights earlier. Due to Zed Key’s shoulder injury sustained against Purdue, the mission became more difficult without him. At the half, Ohio State led 39–34, even without Key.

Maryland launched a 14-0 surge to start the second half, and the Buckeyes were unable to hold onto their lead. On a few instances, Ohio State would trim the Terrapins’ lead to three points, but they were unable to regain the lead. Both Brice Sensabaugh and Justice Sueing scored more than 20 points apiece, giving them every opportunity to compete.

Men’s basketball at Ohio State falls to Minnesota 70-67.

Entering the game on a two-game losing streak, there appeared to be a chance to turn things around. Unfortunately, Minnesota jumped out to a nine-point lead in the first half, and the Buckeyes started the game drowsy. At the very least, Ohio State would begin to turn things around a little, behind the Golden Gophers by just two points at the break.

With just over five minutes remaining in the game, Minnesota led by as much as 11 points, demonstrating that their first-half momentum would not translate into the second half. With eight seconds remaining, Brice Sensabaugh would make two free throws to provide the Buckeyes a fightback and tie the game.

Rutgers men’s basketball defeats Ohio State 68-64 in overtime.

When these two teams faced in December in Columbus, Tanner Holden’s buzzer beater helped Ohio State win 67-66. As anticipated, this match in New Jersey was very tight.Ohio State v Rutgers

It was a one-possession game for the majority of the second half, just as the first meeting between the schools. Sensabaugh missed a three-point shot with two seconds remaining in regulation, which prevented him from ending Ohio State’s losing run after tying the game at 57 with 49 seconds remaining. In overtime, the Buckeyes lost momentum, and with 1:34 remaining, Rutgers took a decisive lead. After Ohio State seized a 61-60 lead, the Scarlet Knights went on a 7-0 run to seal the victory. Zed Key was available to participate in the game, thus the Buckeyes had some positive news despite the difficult defeat. Key played 28 minutes after coming off the bench, almost recording a double-double with 11 points and 9 rebounds in the game.

C.J. Stroud makes his NFL Draft debut in 2023.

Though it was inevitable that the Ohio State quarterback would announce his candidacy for the NFL Draft, hope began to grow that Stroud might make a comeback to Columbus as the filing deadline approached. A tweet from a well-known NIL grifter gave rise to the notion that Stroud might return for a second season. The “big news” turned out to be a dumb gender reveal. I could go on and on about how horrible it was, but I’ll be the larger man. I had to check myself even then to be sure I hadn’t cracked a quick joke.

Nebraska defeats Ohio State men’s basketball 63-60.

This is a game that Ohio State truly ought to win, despite the fact that there are no easy wins in the Big Ten while playing on the road. The Buckeyes are more talented than the Cornhuskers, whether Zed Key is playing at a lower than 100% level or not.

Ohio State shot a pitiful 35.7 percent from the field. I’m not sure if this defeat or the one against Minnesota was more painful, but it seems like I’m beginning to truly come to the conclusion that Chris Holtmann isn’t the best choice for head coach of the Buckeyes.

Iowa is defeated 93-77 by Ohio State men’s basketball.Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl - Ohio State v Georgia

Twice a month, even a broken team is right, I suppose. Sensabaugh led the club in scoring with 27 points after shooting 10 of 12 from the field. He was excellent. With eighteen points, ten rebounds, and seven assists, Isaac Likekele had his greatest performance as a Buckeye. At least Ohio State felt somewhat more confident after the victory going into two difficult road games.

The nation’s second-ranked team lost its opening game of the season, 83-72, against Iowa, after beginning the campaign 19-0. Iowa led the teams 56–54 going into the fourth quarter. Sadly, Ohio State was unable to respond to Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes.

After finishing the game with 28 points, 15 assists, and 10 rebounds, Clark achieved a triple-double.

Illinois defeats Ohio State men’s basketball 69-60.

What a waste of time thinking the men’s team could capitalize on their victory over Iowa a few days before.

Ohio State’s performance against the Fighting Illini was lackluster. The game was completely controlled by the Buckeyes. The largest difference was found in rebounding, as Illinois outscored Ohio State 44–30. Even though winning at Champaign is never simple, the Buckeyes could have used a bit more vigor and effort.Indiana defeats Ohio State women’s basketball 78-65.

Ohio State led the Buckeyes 36–32 at the half in Bloomington, and it appeared like they were going to get back on the winning track. Then came the third quarter.The.

Indiana defeats Ohio State men’s basketball 86-70.

Even worse than the game against Illinois a few days earlier was Ohio State’s effort on Saturday night at Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers had a 46-30 lead at the break, and the Buckeyes were unable to close the gap during the second half.

With six three-pointers in the first half, rookie Jalen Hood-Schifino completely destroyed Ohio State, even though Trayce Jackson-Davis was the game’s main draw going into it.After the setback, Ohio State’s record for the month was 2–7. As of right now, the season record is 11–10, with a 3–7 record in the Big Ten. If the Ohio State Buckeyes don’t have a strong showing in February and

Purdue defeats Ohio State women’s basketball 73-65.

Given the kind of opposition they faced, the Ohio State women’s basketball team’s opening two losses of the campaign were to be expected. Much more perplexing was the Boilermakers’ Sunday defeat in Columbus.

The Buckeyes trailed Purdue 73-65 after falling behind 27-13 in the first quarter and unable to catch up. Ohio State’s third straight loss knocked them to 10th place in the most recent rankings, which were made public on Monday.
