Cincinnati Bengals: 7 players returned to roster off COVID-19 list

Cincinnati Bengals star wideout Ja’Marr Chase wants the world to know that his team handed the Seattle Seahawks, specifically rookie corner Devon Witherspoon, a loss on Sunday. Chase took exception to Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf’s comments regarding his prospects against Witherspoon and the Seattle secondary in preparation for their Week 6 clash.

“I think Spoon (Devon Witherspoon) will get the best of him,” Metcalf said about the rookie corner covering Chase in Week 6.

“He’s always going to be a competitor at practice, and I see now, it translates to the game,” added Metcalf.

Ja’Marr Chase took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to repost the video of DK Metcalf talking about Sunday’s tilt.

Now, Chase and Witherspoon have taken their newly formed rivalry to Instagram, with the two stars exchanging words on social media.

The Cincinnati Bengals took down the Seattle Seahawks at home 17-13 in their Week 6 clash. However, Ja’Marr Chase struggled to find open grass against Seattle’s Devon Witherspoon, failing to haul in either of his targets when covered by the rookie corner.
Witherspoon finished the contest with four tackles and three passes deflected. Regardless, the other members of the Seattle secondary were gashed by Chase, with the LSU product snagging six catches for 80 yards on 13 targets. Chase brought in a crucial 31-yard reception to end the first quarter on a drive that resulted in a Cincinnati touchdown.

Ja’Marr Chase has an NFL-leading 50 receptions on the year while posting a career-best 93 yards per game through the season’s first six games. The 2021 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year is pacing for 1,576 yards and nine receiving touchdowns as he looks to earn his third Pro Bowl nod in as many years.

Meanwhile, Witherspoon has played himself into the Defensive Rookie of the Year conversation. The former first-round pick has tallied 27 tackles, seven passes defended, two sacks, and a pick-six of New York Giants QB Daniel Jones. The Bengals and Seahawks will not meet again in the 2023 regular season, and it would take a Super Bowl run from both parties for them to square off again this year.

The San Francisco 49ers won’t have to worry about operating their offense without starting quarterback Brock Purdy under center in Week 8. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Purdy has cleared concussion protocol and will enter Sunday without an injury tag against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Brock Purdy, the final pick of the 2022 NFL draft, entered his rookie season as an afterthought but was thrust into action late in the season after injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo. The Iowa State product shined, throwing 13 touchdowns and four interceptions while winning all five of his regular season starts. Purdy led the 49ers to the NFC Championship but injured his elbow early in the loss.

Purdy has played well this season as the unquestioned starting quarterback for the 49ers. The 23-year-old has thrown for 1,668 yards and eleven touchdowns against three interceptions.

The 49ers also have former third-overall pick Sam Darnold on the active roster. If anything happens to Brock Purdy, Danold would be the next man up. The former USC star played for the Carolina Panthers last season, throwing for 1,143 yards and seven touchdowns against three picks in six games. He started his NFL tenure with the New York Jets but got traded after three uninspiring seasons.
