Holcomb attempted to make the tackle as Hopkins gained the first down, but his colleague, safety Keanu Neal, moved up from the secondary to attempt the same play. As Hopkins spun him around, Neal was poised to make the tackle, but Hopkins’s move knocked Neal off balance and his leg
The injury resulted from a collision between Holcomb’s and Neal’s legs. Holcomb felt pain as his leg twisted awkwardly backward and he gripped it.
“This is among those injuries where we don’t have to play the replay,” Al Michaels stated during the broadcast on Amazon Prime Video.
The Steelers have not disclosed the nature of the injury, but based on Holcomb’s response, it appears to be fairly serious.
As of Thursday, Holcomb, 27, had played in seven games and accumulated 52 total tackles (four of which were for loss), two forced fumbles, one recovery, and two passes defended.
After spending four seasons in the NFC East, Holcomb, a fifth-round selection by the Washington Commanders out of North Carolina, is now in his debut season with Pittsburgh.
