Auburn 4-star OL commit Deandre Carter sticks with Tigers after Texas official visit, explains why
Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei offensive lineman Deandre Carter has reaffirmed his commitment to Auburn and shut down his recruitment. Carter committed to the Tigers back in early September but took an official visit to Texas in early October.
The Longhorns had some buzz with Carter immediately following the visit, and a few close to him felt a flip would be coming. We talked to Carter a few weeks ago, and he said that he was still wrestling with the decision.
As we hit the final stretch of the college football season, it’s time to drop a Version 1.0 of my Mock Draft for the 2024 NFL Draft.
During the preseason, I went deep into the 2022 tape, grinding through cut-ups and diving into entire games, materializing in my Top 100 rankings and my 50 favorite draft-eligible prospects.
Two weeks after ranking my favorite draft-eligible prospect at each position, I’m going to do things a little differently by reading the tea leaves to project out a 2024 Mock Draft, based on the latest order of the draft according to Tankathon.
I might most recently have made Drake Maye my favorite quarterback prospect in the draft, but that doesn’t mean the Bears are going to take him.
The Bears are likely to move on from Justin Fields and Caleb Willams is going to be too hard to pass on. The Bears need someone that can move the needle on an offense that’s been stagnant long before they infamously took Mitch Trubisky over Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson at No. 2 overall in 2017. Williams is the closest thing to Mahomes, but do the Bears have the infrastructure — the coaching, the weapons, the veteran presence in the quarterback room — that Mahomes was blessed with?
The Giants sorely need a difference-maker and will weigh that need against restarting the quarterback clock with Drake Maye. For my money, Marvin Harrison Jr.. is a can’t-miss guy who can inject some life in the franchise and the city. Future HOFer, just like his daddy.
Not sure who New England’s coach will be, but can almost guarantee that they will get a quarterback early. Drake Maye seems like a fit; Mac Jones, not so much. Maye has a freaky toolbox of skills. The Patriots won’t mess him up … right?
Kool-Aid McKinstry has had a relatively quiet season, mainly because he rarely gets targeted. He’s the top cornerback with length and speed and has proven his worth over the past three seasons. Nick Saban LOVES him, and that’s all you need to know.
Olu Fashanu is the frontrunner to be the first of many tackles taken off the board. He’s an excellent pass protector and has the tools to be great, with huge upside on the blindside. Smart for Chicago to keep investing in its offensive line after drafting the franchise quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick. A glut of receivers on Day 2 will be a great time to find some weapons.
The dual-threat Jayden Daniels seems like a great fit to be next in line at Green Bay as Jordan Love is not “him,” as the kids say. Daniels is the best player in the country and anybody who passes on him will probably regret it. I can see teams talking their way out of him because his frame is still slender after four seasons in college and, while he was a highly-ranked recruit, does not have the prodigious arm talent of those like Williams and Maye.
Brock Bowers is a difference maker-who the offensive-minded Sean McVay can scheme around and dominate at the next level. At a position that is becoming more valuable for the next level, Bowers might be the best overall prospect in the draft.
