Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel entering transfer portal after 2 seasons with Sooners

University of Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel announced Monday that he’s entering the transfer portal after two seasons leading the Sooners’ offense.

Gabriel posted a thank-you letter to OU fans, his coaches and his teammates Monday morning, saying he’s made memories the past two years that remind him how blessed he is.

“I have been able to play football for an amazing group of coaches and alongside men who have become my brothers,” Gabriel wrote. “More than anything, I have grown in faith and love. I appreciate and cherish these memories and relationships forever. My time in The Palace was a game-time experience I will never forget. Sooner Nation, you held me accountable and I am better for it.”

During his two seasons as a Sooner, Gabriel thew for more than 6,800 yards and 55 touchdowns while finding the end zone 18 times on the ground.

The Hawaii native led OU to a 10-win season in 2023 and had a signature win and moment by leading a last-minute drive to beat Texas in the Red River Showdown. He found Nic Anderson in the end zone with 15 seconds left in the game to give the Sooners a 34-30 win.

Before joining the Sooners, Gabriel was the quarterback at the University of Central Florida. He is eligible for the NFL draft, but entering the transfer portal gives him the chance to explore his options before making a decision.

The next time the Sooners take the field, they will square off against Arizona in the Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio. The bowl game kicks off at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28 and will be televised on ESPN.
