Robert Williams Reportedly Suffers Season-Ending Injury
As if losing back-to-back games wasn’t bad enough for the Portland Trail Blazers, it appears that they’re going to have to go the rest of the season without their starting center, Robert Williams III.
According to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Williams will require surgery on his right knee that will end his season. He suffered the injury in the Trail Blazers’ loss to the Memphis Grizzlies earlier this week.
“ESPN Sources: Portland Trail Blazers center Robert Williams III will be required to undergo season-ending right knee surgery,” Woj wrote on X.
Fortunately, the outlook appears to be pretty good. Woj noted in a follow-up post that he is expected to be fully recovered in time for the 2024-25 season.
“Williams III, who suffered damage to his kneecap and ligaments in a Sunday loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, is expected to be fully recovered for the start of the 2024-2025 season, sources said,” Woj wrote.
The Trail Blazers acquired Robert Williams along with Malcolm Brogdon and a pair of draft picks from the Boston Celtics in a trade that sent Jrue Holiday to Boston.
