£25m Leeds star not currently a ‘priority’ for Aston Villa – journalist
Central midfield is not currently a ‘priority’ position for Aston Villa amid reports they have stepped up interest in Leeds United’s Tyler Adams.
That is according to Daily Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath, who, via HITC, was speaking on talkSPORT regarding the future of the Whites midfielder.
Adams is attracting interest from a host of Premier League clubs this summer following Leeds‘ relegation, with the Athletic reporting Villa had started talks over a deal last week.
Leeds are set to command a fee of around £25 million to stave off interest in Adams. Nottingham Forest and Brighton are among the other sides to have been linked.
However, San Francisco 49ers Enterprises are desperate to keep Adams this summer for Leeds’ promotion push, and plan to hold talks with him in the coming weeks.
Leeds’ Adams not currently a priority for Villa
Villa have already strengthened their midfield options with the signing of Youri Tielemans this summer, with Douglas Luiz, Boubacar Kamara, Jacob Ramsey, John McGinn and Leander Dendoncker also on the books.
Dendoncker could well be allowed to leave Villa Park in the coming weeks, though, which could open the door for a move for Adams, but at this stage is not a ‘priority’ according to McGrath.
He said: “The situation with Tyler Adams is that he is liked by Aston Villa in that position. My understanding is that it’s not the priority position for them, at the moment.
“But he is certainly one they are looking at, maybe if they get some out like Dendoncker. If he goes, then Tyler Adams comes into the mix.
“I think he will be on the list of others as well because of Leeds’ situation of being relegated. He would be available for a fairly reasonable price. Others could overtake Aston Villa in the near future. Champions League experience.”
Keeping Adams would be a huge boost to Leeds’ promotion aspirations this season, and would also reduced the size of the rebuild needed in midfield.
At the same time, he was probably one of a handful of players Leeds could command a fee for, given the loan clauses that seem to be in several others’ contract.
Leeds must remain firm in their valuation, though, as he would be a big player if he was to stay.
