The law of probability suggested that the moment I took a snooze, sorry power nap, news would filter through that Luton had made their first new signing of the summer
.
And that has proven to be exactly the case with the Official Site confirming that Chiedozie Ogbene had put pen-to-paper on a contract with the Hatters.
Ogbene, a subject of a piece of transfer speculation we covered in the following article – luton-town-linked-with-championship-striker-as-premier-league-preparations-continue – will officially become a Luton Town player when his current contract with the Championship side, Rotherham United, expires on 30-June-2023.
With the player being out of contract, no transfer fee will be involved
The 26-year-old, who is a Republic of Ireland international, scored on 9 occasions in the Championship last season while also providing 4 assists.
Able to play as a winger or striker, Rob Edwards, among many things he had to say about his addition to the squad, and as reported by our referenced source, is quoted as having remarked:
“Chieo is a really exciting addition and is someone we’ve liked for a while.
“We got to look at him a lot last season in preparing to play against him and his Rotherham team, and in my opinion, he was their best and most threatening player.
“We actually did a reasonable amount of work on stopping him as well as part of our game planning, so you know when you are doing that, he should be on a list for possible recruitment.
“We know we are going to need some real athleticism in the Premier League, and he knows how to use it. He’s flexible, and he’s going to be able to play through the middle as a forward, but also as a wide one, if we wanted to play with wide forwards. He can play a couple of positions.”
Here at Vital Luton Town, I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing Cheidozie every success at our wonderful club as we strive to not only survive in the Premier league but also cause a few shocks.
Welcome to Luton Town Football Club young man.
Sorry if I sound unenthusiastic an I want to give the guy a chance.but for me this signing is underwhelming.he is not a prolific scorer an to my mind this shows sweet wants to look further than this season as he’s said up to 5yrs in the future in other words if we are relegated next season we have players in place for the championship again. Not what I want to see or hear.
