Giants activate TE Darren Waller before game against Saints NEW ORLEANS – New York Giants tight end.
Darren Waller has returned from injured reserve for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints, the team announced Saturday.
Waller had a 21-day active period this week, participating in limited training on Thursday and Friday.
After taking over as team principal, he was officially listed as questionable.
The former Pro Bowl tight end has missed the past five games with a hamstring injury.
Waller said he had “no problems” practicing this week.
He opened it up, ran routes at full speed and felt ready for Sunday’s matchup against the Saints.
The Giants (5-8), with undrafted rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito, have won their third straight game and are one game away from the NFC’s last wild-card spot.
Waller, 31, led the Giants with 384 rushing yards at the time of the injury.
In his first year in New York, he recorded 36 catches and one touchdown.
The Giants had high expectations for Waller after signing him in a trade this offseason.
That cost them a third-round pick (No.
100 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft), and he was supposed to be quarterback Daniel Jones’ No.
1 receiver.
Now, Waller returns as an additional target for DeVito, who started the season on the practice squad.
Waller admitted this week that he didn’t catch many passes from the rookie quarterback.
Waller expects his workload to be somewhat limited upon his return.
He’s used to playing 100 percent of the offensive snaps when he’s healthy.
That wouldn’t happen in New Orleans.
“He’s probably not 100 percent with the workload.
There’s probably going to be a certain number of reps that count as pitch counts,” Waller said Friday.
“We don’t know how many it will be.
We don’t know if certain situations will arise during the game.
” You have to figure it out, but it’s probably much lower than 100%.
