Interview with Andreas Pereira: On his departure from Manchester United and his new chapter at Fulham

Andreas Pereira is looking forward to returning to Manchester United on Sunday, but it’s time for him to go in the summer.
He was so convinced that he had to move on after a 10-year hiatus at Old Trafford that he had no direct contact with Erik ten Hag, fearing that the new manager would persuade him to stay.
I avoided the meeting.
Ten Hag knows Pereira well from his time as manager at PSV Eindhoven and spoke with Director of Football John Murtagh and Pereira’s agent during a pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.
There was talk between them about taking a closer look at the midfielder.
However, Pereira resists the temptation to listen to Ten Hag and instead tells him to leave.
His decision has been taken and he is happy with his decision after six months of regular football for the Fulham team that has surprised the Premier League so far this season.
He returns to Old Trafford on Sunday for Fulham’s first FA Cup quarter-final in more than a decade (12:44:44.

“I know him because we worked together at PSV, but in my heart I’m determined and if I talk to the manager again I’ll probably stay.
In my head I’m thinking, ‘I have to go, I’m confident.
I have to play with this in mind,” and that’s what I did.
“I had a lot of memories at United, some good and some bad.
It’s been 10 years since I joined the club.
I came here as a 16-year-old boy.
It was a really fun trip for him, but he got to a point where he thought maybe he shouldn’t stay here.
“I wanted to feel more loved and I wanted to play every game.
What Fulham offered me and what (manager) Marco (Silva) offered me.
It was the perfect opportunity.
” United staff, who had been at the club long before Ten Hag, were already aware of Pereira’s unique personality.
In 2017, he insisted on a loan move to Valencia, against the wishes of manager Jose Mourinho, who wanted him to stay at the club.
He admitted at the time that he was “nervous” about playing against Mourinho, but insisted he had no regrets.
“It was really good because I played a lot of games in different leagues in Spain and Italy,” he says.
“I learned a lot of new things that I might not have learned in England.
It made me a more complete player.
” Of course there are downsides because you don’t stay in one place, but every year I felt good and it was my goal to return to Manchester United.
