Pittsburgh — The Pittsburgh Steelers are planning to start Mason Rudolph at quarterback in Week 17 against the
Seattle Seahawks, but they aren’t ruling out Kenny Pickett making a comeback.
Pickett’s high ankle injury has kept him out of action for the past three games. Shortly after, he had surgery, and this
past week was his first practice back. Before being ruled out of Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals, he was
limited for the majority of the week.
Head coach Mike Tomlin stated that the club is getting ready with the same expectations for this week. Tomlin
responded that the team is taking things day by day and is not operating under hypotheticals when asked if Pickett
will start if he is cleared in time for the game.
“With Kenny, we’re actually in the same situation as we were last week. We’ll give him a couple reps and see where it
takes us from there. However, as I mentioned in this same situation a week ago, Mason Rudolph was supposed to
start at quarterback for the week. As for Kenny, we’ll see where he is,” Tomlin stated. “We begin this week with the
same mindset. Obviously, what we’ve witnessed gives us a great lot more comfort.
According to head coach Mike Tomlin, the team is preparing with the same goals in mind for this week. When asked
if Pickett would start if cleared in time for the game, Tomlin said that the team is taking things day by day and is not
working in hypotheticals.
“Actually, with Kenny, things are exactly the same as they were the previous week. After a few repetitions, we’ll
assess where things go. But as I noted in a similar circumstance a week prior, Mason Rudolph was expected to start
the entire week as quarterback. We’ll see where Kenny is, as for him,” Tomlin said. “This week starts off the same for
us. Evidently, what we’ve seen provides us with a fantastic
Rudolph threw for 290 yards and two touchdowns during the team’s 34-11 win over Cincinnati. He’s 6-4-1 all-time as
