Liverpool centre-back Nat Phillips emerges as target for Leeds, with Jurgen Klopp’s side prepared to let him leave for £10m this summer
Liverpool centre-back Nat Phillips is a target for Leeds this summer as they relegated side aim to bolster their defence for the Championship.
The 26-year-old is valued around £10m by Liverpool and is ready to depart, with game time lacking at Anfield.
Phillips acquitted himself well when called upon by Jurgen Klopp, particularly during the injury-hit 2020-21 season.
The uncompromising defender is seen as a solidifying force who could excel in the second tier of English football.
Leeds, who are expected to finalise Daniel Farke as manager, are losing Robin Koch who is wanted at Eintracht Frankfurt.
Phillips played 17 times for Liverpool in the Premier League the season before last but only made two appearances in the top flight last term.
With Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip vying for the centre-back positions, Phillips is down the pecking order.
And £10m would be a solid return for the club, with the Englishman having joined the club’s academy back in 2016.
Leeds suffered a dismal relegation last season and are looking to bounce straight back into the Premier League.
They began with Jesse Marsch before replacing him with Javi Gracia, who they sacked in an act of desperation towards the end of the season, bringing in Sam Allardyce on a short term deal.
But he was unable to help them beat the drop as they were relegated along with Southampton and Leicester.
The Championship is a notoriously difficult league to progress from and with all three establish Premier League heavy hitters vying to get back, it has the makings of a tricky season for Leeds.
