Neil Taylor was released by Middlesbrough at the end of last season
Following his departure from Middlesbrough, Neil Taylor declared his retirement from football.
The 33-year-old left-back, who has 43 caps for Wales, announced on social media that his playing career is coming to an end. After spending the previous season on Teesside, when he made 17 appearances overall, including FA Cup matches against Manchester United, Tottenham, and Chelsea, Boro was his final club.Throughout his career, Taylor played for Wrexham, Swansea City, and Aston Villa in addition to Boro, where he ended up playing.
He disclosed on the BBC Football Daily Podcast that he moved to Dubai with his family after being released by Boro in the summer, where he has been working as a pundit in the Middle East in addition to training with a few local teams. The defender has since declared his retirement. He wrote on social media, saying, “It’s the end of my professional career.
Loved it. Forward motion and ascent!” An attachment contained the following statement: “When I was seven years old, my mother told me, ‘If you ever want to stop, you can, but if you’re in, you’re all in.'” I was, too!
But I’m not anymore. Playing in the National League, the Premier League, and the breathtaking heights with my beloved Wales, I have thoroughly enjoyed my career. I feel as though my hard work, perseverance, and sacrifice have washed away every last scrap of ability—or lack thereof.
“Wales, Team GB, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa, Swansea City, and Wrexham.” Supervisors, employees, athletes, supporters, New Era (agents), the individuals I now consider friends, and most significantly, my entire family, without whom we all understand it would not be possible. I’m grateful. “I’m all in for my family and my upcoming career steps!”
In response, Middlesbrough’s official Twitter account wrote: “Neil Taylor has had a fine career. Have fun when you retire.”
