Philadelphia Eagles, just in case Should Kellen Moores be used by the Cleveland Browns….

Coaching is in Kellen Moore’s blood. Moore, a football coach’s son, rose fast from the Dallas Cowboys’ backup quarterback position to quarterback coach. He became the offensive coordinator the next year and stayed in that role for four years. Moore is scheduled for an interview to be considered for the Cleveland Browns position, following a season in the same capacity with the Los Angeles Chargers.

The fan base’s initial response to this news appears to be quite enthusiastic. Most people agree that during the past few years, Moore has guided some of the NFL’s top offenses. The group of fans that are closest to him, though, probably wouldn’t concur.

Moore was a favorite of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for eight years during his tenure as a player and coach. Moore continued to serve as head coach until 2020, when Mike McCarthy took over. The offense led the NFL in yards and scoring in 2021, which seemed like a wise decision given that they had played 11 games without Dak Prescott in 2020.

The issue is that supporters were prepared for Moore to go before the 2022 season because of his offense’s poor performance in the postseason that year. When he came back, the team’s yardage dropped significantly, from first to eleventh. Not only did they lose seven positions in terms of turnovers, but Prescott led the NFL in interceptions in just 12 games, and he also failed to perform effectively in the postseason.

Following the season, Moore and McCarthy made the decision to separate ways, with Moore leading the Chargers’ offense. Dallas led the NFL in points scored and was eighth in yards when Moore wasn’t there. Prescott played in all 17 games, but he also had six fewer interceptions. More significantly, the offense gave up on trying to employ Moore, who frequently used them as decoys, as one of its greatest players. CeeDee Lamb, who broke team records with 135 receptions and 1,749 yards, was instead force-fed.

Quinn: Dallas has 'two choices' after blowout loss

Regarding Moore, he took over an offense that ranked 13th in scoring and ninth in yards, finishing lower in both categories. His offense ranked 18th in yards and 21st in scoring. They did lose Justin Herbert after 13 games, to be fair, but they also weren’t exactly lighting the world on fire with him. Additionally, he was unable to score a lot of points with the backups, something that Joe Flacco allowed Kevin Stefanski and Alex Van Pelt to accomplish this year.

The trends are concerning, but it’s possible that the problem extends beyond Moore. That being said, it’s a good thing the Browns are keeping an open mind and exploring all available options in an attempt to find Van Pelt’s replacement.
