Coaching is in Kellen Moore’s blood. Moore, a football coach’s son, rose fast from the Dallas Cowboys’ backup quarterback position to quarterback coach. He became the offensive coordinator the next year and stayed in that role for four years. Moore is scheduled for an interview to be considered for the Cleveland Browns position, following a season in the same capacity with the Los Angeles Chargers.
The fan base’s initial response to this news appears to be quite enthusiastic. Most people agree that during the past few years, Moore has guided some of the NFL’s top offenses. The group of fans that are closest to him, though, probably wouldn’t concur.
Moore was a favorite of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for eight years during his tenure as a player and coach. Moore continued to serve as head coach until 2020, when Mike McCarthy took over. The offense led the NFL in yards and scoring in 2021, which seemed like a wise decision given that they had played 11 games withouJerry Jones 2020.
The issue is that supporters were prepared for Moore to go before the 2022 season because of his offense’s poor performance in the postseason that year. When he came back, the team’s yardage dropped significantly, from first to eleventh. Not only did they lose seven positions in terms of turnovers, but Prescott led the NFL in interceptions in just 12 games, and he also failed to perform effectively in the postseason.

To be fair, they did lose Justin Herbert after 13 games, but they weren’t exactly lighting the world on fire with him either. He also couldn’t put up too many points with the backups, which is something Kevin Stefanski and Alex Van Pelt were able to accomplish this year with Joe Flacco. As for Moore, he took over an offense that was ninth in yards and 13th in scoring and finished lower in each area.
The trends are concerning, but it’s possible that the problem extends beyond Moore. That being said, it’s a good thing the Browns are keeping an open mind and exploring all available options in an attempt to find Van Pelt’s replacement.
