After performing at this past Thanksgiving’s Dallas Cowboys halftime spectacular, Dolly Parton really took off and left right away. The legendary country singer made a big impression by performing in the team’s well-known cheerleader costume. After the show, she boarded a private jet and flew home.
Online users responded overwhelmingly well to Parton’s classic outfit, with many expressing shock that the 77-year-old was sporting tiny shorts and a tiny bra top. She threw on a transparent, sequined bodysuit to offer a bit more coverage to her look.
“I was trying to make a jo
ke. I figured because I’m there with all those Dallas cheerleaders, it could be cute to do it. Naturally, they are always loved by all. Carl Thomas Dean, my spouse as well,” Parton said to Page Six.
“If I could pull this off, that would be a cool little thing to do,” I thought to myself. And I decided to give it a shot,” she said. “I assumed that most people would overlook my failure. I assumed they would simply believe me to be an elderly woman who made a careless error. Alternatively, I reasoned that it might just be fun to do.
“It came out better than I had anticipated. All I wanted to do was wear cheerleading attire. Why not? I’m present.”
“I was ecstatic that it received so much attention. “I was happy, even though I wasn’t expecting all that,” she said. Parton, who has been married to Dean since 1966, claims that his response was different.
The “9 to 5” singer revealed, “He had seen it, and I did wear it for him,” adding that she underwent fittings before to the show. “Well, don’t you think it’s a little short?,” he would add. “No,” I replied. It’s not as brief as theirs, or anything like that.””
In a different interview with People Magazine, she repeated these feelings and shared a small joke she told her husband in response to his question about the length of her outfit. She asked, “Jealous?”
“He was just being funny,” Parton clarified. “I think he thought — because everybody’s making a to-do over it — he thought, well, maybe you shouldn’t be showing your butt at that age. But anyway, he got a kick out of it too.”
