For the first time this season, the Hawks and the Lakers are going to face each other. Both Atlanta and Los Angeles have been two of the most disappointing teams in the NBA. Both teams are on the fringe of the playoff conversation, a place that neither franchise wanted to be. They have also been linked together when it comes to trade rumors ahead of next Thursday’s trade deadline. Both teams could use a win tonight to bolster their postseason hopes.
Los Angeles played in a game against the Rockets last night and tonight’s game against the Hawks will be their third game in the last four days. While Lakers forward LeBron James said he plans to play in this game tonight, keep an eye on the injury report for any Lakers players who might sit this game out due to rest.
With a thrilling victory over the Toronto Raptors in the last seconds on Sunday, the Hawks ended a four-game losing streak—a much-needed win. Atlanta has its own set of injury concerns going into this match. Due to right hamstring tightness, Dejounte Murray missed the previous game and is doubtful for tonight’s contest. De’Andre Hunter has not participated in a game since December 20th; nevertheless, due to inflammation in his right knee, his status has been elevated to questionable. Hunter had a non-surgical surgery, which Atlanta disclosed on Christmas Day, although the Hawks did not specify when he would return:
“On Saturday, at the Emory Sports Medicine Complex, forward De’Andre Hunter—who has missed the last two games—had an MRI. Tomorrow, Hunter will have a non-surgical treatment to treat inflammation in his right knee. In about two weeks, he will get another evaluation, and his condition will be updated as needed.”
Although there haven’t been many developments since, Hunter may play against the Lakers tonight, though I believe he will have some sort of minute limit. Hunter will be a tremendous boost if he returns to full health. Atlanta has missed him and his defense. Who will win the game tonight, then? Let’s dissect it.
