These are just a handful of well-known former HBCU football players that are now NFL players. One in particular is Dallas Cowboys safety Markquese Bell, who was named the 2023 NBA’s best HBCU player. The 25-year-old will get recognition as the NFL HBCU Spotlight Player of the Year during Super Bowl week.

Bell told Cowboys Wire, “I am sincerely grateful for this honor and acknowledgment to be selected for the NFL HBCU Spotlight Player of the Year for the 2023 season.”

Bell left Florida A&M undrafted in 2022, but he eventually signed with the Cowboys after making an impression on the coaches during training camp. With just five games played and 22 defensive snaps, his debut campaign was a teaching one. He improved his abilities and output in his second season. During the regular season, Bell was used by the defense in 649 snaps, accounting for more than 60% of his total playing time.

Javon Hargrave, Grover Stewart, Isaiah Bolden, Darius Leonard, and Terron Armstead are among the HBCU alumni who play in the NFL. As soon as Bell on the field, he understands that he represents HBCU athletes and serves as an inspiration for underappreciated athletes.

Bell remarked, “I do realize God has called me to lead and be an example for many.” “…and to be honest, I’ve come to terms with my calling to be purposeful in the best possible way to impact the lives of those who witness me.”

Bell, who has this honor, is about to start his third season as a vital member of the Cowboys defense. Bell will be recognized at The Super Bowl Soulful Celebration, which airs, as the NFL HBCU Spotlight Player of the Year.
