CBS Philadelphia – A yearly city custom is about to begin. Thousands of people are anticipated to visit Chinatown for the Lunar New Year’s Day Parade, which is organized by the Philadelphia Suns.
The lion dance, a traditional Chinese dance performed to ward off evil spirits and accompanied by drumming and firecrackers, is the parade’s centerpiece.
The Suns have been rehearsing the lion dance on a basketball court located in the Chinatown basement of a church for the past few months.

“This team specifically does a lot of big acrobatic moves that we’ve never done before,” Jung said.
