This year, despite having the youngest roster in the NFL, the Green Bay Packers surprised everyone by making the playoffs. However, Brian Gutekunst believes that when the next season begins, the players shouldn’t be able to relax.
However, Jordan Love’s breakthrough performance this season impressed everyone. The top quarterback for the Packers, Aaron Rodgers, took on a new task after being traded to the New York Jets and guided the team into the playoffs.
Love has a lot of potential because he turns 26 later this year. Despite his growing pains, which included a costly error in their season-ending defeat to the San Francisco 49ers, Love’s talent and leadership throughout the season are sufficient grounds for investing heavily in his future.
Nothing is assured for the team for the upcoming season, according to Matt LaFleur, despite Love and other players on the squad having outstanding seasons.
“Every year is unique from the next. The most important thing for (the rookies) entering Year 2 is realizing that, even though they had some success in Year 1, it doesn’t guarantee them a slot. Instead, they need to put in the necessary effort and be prepared to compete as soon as we get going. Once more, their future looks bright, but a lot will depend on what they do going forward, according to Gutekunst.
“Every year is a different year. The big thing for (the rookies) going into Year 2 is understanding just because they had some success in Year 1 doesn’t mean that their spots are safe, and that they better be working and be ready to compete once we get rolling. Again, their future is bright, but it’s really kind of what they do from here on out,” Gutekunst said.
Although the Packers exceeded expectations this season, Gutekunst’s warning aimed to keep everyone on their toes by not resting on their laurels. It also shifts everyone’s focus to improve as a new opportunity with new challenges are ahead for the team.
With the upcoming offseason, the Packers plan to improve via the draft or signing free agents to improve the roster. In any case, next season will be one to look forward to for Green Bay fans.
