Leicester City are set to complete signing of the most highly rated super star

Leicester City set to sign highly-rated Manchester City defender Callum Doyle on a season-long loan… but an option to buy WON’T be included in the deal

Leicester City are set to complete a season-long loan move for Manchester City’s Callum Doyle.

Doyle, a highly-rated central defender, had a string of options over the summer as he looks to progress his career.

The 19-year-old flourished on loan at Sunderland in League One before impressing with Coventry City last season.

City have high hopes for the England Under-20 international and it is understood that the Premier League champions have opted against including an option to buy in negotiations with Leicester.

The Foxes’ new boss, Enzo Maresca, was Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager and worked within the City academy system before that. Maresca is fully aware of Doyle’s ability, with the left-footed centre half renowned for his passing ability.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is “really excited” to start working with James Maddison after signing the midfielder from Leicester City – and believes the England international can be a leader within the squad.

City sold Maddison to Tottenham for £40million earlier this summer, with the playmaker penning a long-term contract in north London. He was set to depart regardless of whether Leicester were relegated to the Championship, but that fate will have driven down the price tag.

He will link up with his new Tottenham teammates on Wednesday, when Harry Kane will also rejoin the squad, and his manager Postecoglou has spoken about what he expects from Maddison on and off the pitch.

Postecoglou said: “Really excited to get James as part of the group. Any manager will tell you that part of the key to being a dominant team is having multiple attacking threats and having a midfielder who can score and create goals.

“They’re not easy to come by. He’s proven himself at that level in the last few years as somebody who can do that. When you look at Tottenham the last few years, they’ve been really reliant on the front three to get their goals.

“I thought it was a really good fit for us to look for a player like James – even better if we could get James, so we ended up getting James. I was really pleased and the fact we did it early was great because it allows him to have a break. He’s had the birth of twins so I don’t know what shape he’ll be in when he gets here!

“But once we get him in, it means he can come on the tour with us and I know he’s really excited about joining the group. He obviously knows a few of the lads and I think he’s in a stage of his career where it feels like he can be a leader, which is great as well because we need players who want to embrace that responsibility within this group.

“Whether it’s their first year in or they’ve been here for ages, we’re going to need leadership on the field and he feels like he can be a player who does that.”
