Georgia’s Augusta (WRDW/WAGT) – It appears like ice hockey in Augusta is becoming a reality rather than just a pipe fantasy.
The designs for the new James Brown Arena are beginning to take shape now that the financing has been approved by the voters.
The business Zawyer Sports, whose CEO promises to bring ice hockey to Augusta, is collaborating with Oak View, the organization that will oversee the arena.
He had a conversation with our Laura Warren on why they believe Augusta is a perfect fit.
“In a city like Savannah, Georgia, how do you sell out an ice hockey game?” asks Laura.
“Really, it’s just about bringing the community together,” said Andy Kauffman.
They have been able to duplicate this model.
“We established a team in Lake Tahoe, where our friend Tim Tebow served as the managing partner. formed a team in Allen, Texas, alongside Miles Jack, a former Steelers player, according to Kauffman.
Currently, there are plans to introduce ice hockey to Augusta.
“We’re prepared to put our money where our mouths are, and we have no doubt it will succeed here,” he remarked.
Once voters authorized the funding to construct a new James Brown Arena, the puck began to slide. John Whitwell, a former Lynx player, really took the lead and caught Kauffman’s eye.
After we are able to drop the puck on opening night for around two years, Kauffman stated, “we basically claim an expansion membership in the ECHL and we come to town, make everyone proud, and celebrate with you guys.”
According to Kauffman, they prioritize the community, and Augusta will have a vote in the team’s name. This team will be connected to the NHL.
