How Super Eagles defied odds, doubts to qualify for N10b CAF prize — Sport — The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

the following morning!

I got back to my hotel room at three in the morning after the Ebimpe match last night!

It is 11:30 on Monday morning when I write this, and my crew and I have just left to resume our work along Africa’s west coast.

AFCON 2023 has been an amazing experience and a fantastic football festival. It is among the most spectacular AFCONs to occur in a long time.

The superior team prevailed last night, and I’ll be the first to accept that. The Elephants deserved to win. I give them my congratulations. Elephants “flew” like Eagles that night thanks to the unprecedented and unwavering support of Ivorians.

There were slightly over 57,000 people present at the game overall. Every one of the 57,000 people donned the Cote D’Ivoire orange, thereby “killing” the Nigerian Football Supporters Club members’ attempts to be heard above the clamor.

This is not the time for audits or forensic analyses of Nigeria’s performance in the championship game. Technically speaking, it is nearly a duplicate of the semifinal match during

Lastly, I would want to thank the Super Eagles for helping us get to the finals and for their incredible work over the past three weeks in uplifted Nigerian spirits and helped alleviate some of the physical and emotional suffering the entire nation is experiencing during these trying moments in our history.

It was evident that the Ivorians were determined to take home the championship. And so they actually did!

My parting remarks.

Yesterday, I watched on social media as Jose Mourinho claimed to have “sold” Nigeria a dummy in the form of his closest football buddy, Jose Paseiro. Is a close friendship the prerequisite for being the Super Eagles’ coach?

We appreciate Jose Mourinho on behalf of Nigerians. We also express our gratitude to his friend for helping the Super Eagles and hitting his modest goal.

Our current goals are more ambitious, therefore we would need a new coach who has demonstrated technical skill and credentials—not just friendship—and higher aspirations.

Paseiro is aware that this is the appropriate point to terminate his engagement with Nigeria.

He will be duly compensated for all rights and sent on his way.

Mourinho can assist us in removing his friend and selling him to the person who wishes to hire his closest friend as coach.

It is commendable that the athletes made it to the finals. They may have performed better in the way they handled the championship game, but I can appreciate how challenging it must be to play in the face of such intense crowd intimidation. In 1980, we used the same strategy to defeat a stronger Algerian opponent.

Nigerians should be very proud of the Super Eagles for their valor. I’m hoping that the Nigerian people and government would regard them as the real heroes that they are!
