Bobby Okereke of the Giants is getting along with Shane Bowen, the new defensive coordinator.
One of the New York Giants’ bright lights during the 2023 NFL season was linebacker Bobby Okereke, who plans to continue playing at the same level into the following season. Even though Okereke fulfilled his end of the contract during the previous campaign, he is aware that the defense needs to play as a cohesive unit to meet expectations, which can only be achieved with wise play-calling.
Shane Bowen, the Giants’ new defensive coordinator, will take over for Wink Martindale. Commonplace with a new coach being brought into the mix, Okereke wasted little time establishing base with Bowen.
As Ezekiel Trezvant IV of Fan Nation revealed, Okereke had the following to say regarding the two getting along and aligned:
For around ten minutes, we conversed about various aspects of our experiences, including my time spent playing with Matt Eberflus in the Cover 2 system, Gus Bradley in the Cover 3 system, and Wink in the blitz-man system. I’m eager to get my hands dirty in what they and we are doing right now.
During his time with the Indianapolis Colts and the Giants, Okereke became comfortable in each of the three defensive schemes. Okereke flourished in his debut season leading the Colts’ four-man rush in Eberflus’ Cover 2 zone, recording four passes defended and 132 total tackles to complement his wide receivers in drop coverage. His stats stayed the same after switching to Cover 3 under Bradley, and he also registered 52 assisted tackles.
When Okereke tied his career high in interceptions (two) and quarterback hits (six) in 2023, the Giants set him up for success. After having a career-best season, Okereke is looking forward to working with Bowen and leading the Giants defense as they look to win more games in 2024.
Leading the league’s top run defense in 2022, Bowen—the previous defensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans from 2021–2023—saw his squad limit opponents to 2.9 yards per carry from the end of that season until Week 2 of 2023. This was the best metric the NFL had seen since 2007, according to Fan Nation’s Tyler Rowland.
Okereke has the gift and Bowen has the skills to create a successful dynamic in New
Even though I only worked 12 hours a week, my final pay was $8750. My long-time neighbor puts in roughly 20 hours a day, seven days a week, for an estimated $15,000. I was shocked by how direct he was when I looked up his details on xz-47.
