The Boston Celtics and Sun Life U.S. conclude the tenth annual Fit to Win initiative for YMCA youngsters.
Feb. 19, 2024, WELLESLEY, Mass. /PRNewswire/ — Fit to Win, an annual initiative that involves youngsters at local YMCAs and helps them learn about and embrace exercise and good lifestyle habits, concluded its tenth year last week thanks to the collaboration of Sun Life U.S. and the Boston Celtics. The youngsters took part in a nutrition competition halfway through the four-week program, where they battled to create the finest salads and smoothies with assistance from Svi Mykhailiuk and Derrick White of the Boston Celtics. This week’s closing celebration took place at the Dorchester YMCA and featured exciting games, activities, and prizes with a Celtics theme to honor the children’s accomplishments.
“Observing the growth of this program over the last ten years and the children’s excitement as they learn about fitness and health has been amazing,” Sun Life U.S. president Dan Fishbein, M.D., stated. “We are fortunate to maintain partnerships with the Celtics and the YMCA of Greater Boston, two incredible organizations that share our passion for helping people live healthier lives and supporting communities in need.”
Fit to Win is a four-week program designed to help youth embrace mindfulness, good nutrition, fitness, and healthy lifestyle choices. A survey was given to the participants during the first week to find out more about their knowledge and experiences about healthy behaviors. The children completed a second survey at the conclusion of the session, demonstrating their learnings. Among the outcomes were:
95% of participants stated they intended to keep up their normal workout schedules.
95% assist with grocery shopping and home cooking.
Sixty percent of them intend to keep journaling.
Ted Dalton, Chief Partnership Officer of the Boston Celtics, remarked, “We are fortunate to have great friends and partners at Sun Life and join them in congratulating the youth that have participated in the Fit to Win program.” “Now in its tenth year, active to Win has developed and expanded as young kids throughout the Greater Boston region discover the value of being physically active. We hope Fit to Win will keep making a difference in the community and are excited to celebrate the accomplishments of the children at the participating YMCAs.”
For almost a decade, Sun Life has been a partner of the Boston Celtics. They provide the annual #SunLifeDunk4Diabetes fundraiser in November in addition to the Fit to Win program, which raises funds for the YMCA of Greater Boston Healthy Habits program. Over 2,000 students in New England have benefited from Fit to Win since its inception.
