The star of the presentation was an auctioned off former Presidential yacht used off the coast of Maine.
HOUSTON (WMTW) – The speedboat that the late President George H.W. Bush owned and used to cruise the Maine coast was auctioned off. It was stored at Walker’s Point in Kennebunkport.
At the 2024 Presidential Salute auction in Houston on Friday night, the 38-foot motorboat “Fidelity V” went for $435,000. In a friendly bidding battle, the successful bidder remained anonymous and submitted their bids over the phone.
In many respects, the roughly 1,000 horsepower boat was the star of the show, even if the guest list for the banquet included celebrities like two-time Super Bowl winner Peyton Manning and former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
The George H.W. Bush Presidential Library & Museum and The Bush School of Government & Public Service at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, will be able to provide more programs thanks to the sale’s proceeds.
After leaving office, both Bush and his son, former President George W. Bush, bought the 2011-model Fountain 38CC. The boat has three Mercury outboard motors that can push it to 75 mph and is emblazoned with the presidential emblem.
This is the fifth speedboat that George H.W. Bush has named Fidelity. The fourth is still in operation in Kennebunkport, while the first is on exhibit at the Bush Library and Museum.
