The most important springtime queries for the top 25 college football teams
We released our Way-Too-Early Top 25 rankings last week. We now have several enquiries concerning the teams that advanced. Will it be possible for rookie quarterbacks to become adjusted before the season begins? Can inexperienced coaches win over their players’ trust? And can outstanding units continue to be effective?
These are the main spring questions that our writers have for each squad.
1. The Bulldogs of Georgia
Can the Bulldogs find a replacement for their defensive studs who are leaving?
Last season, Georgia’s pass defence performed admirably once more, finishing sixth in the FBS in terms of yards allowed per attempt. However, with safety Javon Bullard and Tykee Smith as well as lockdown cornerback Kamari Lassiter leaving for the NFL, the Bulldogs may need to make some secondary roster changes. Now that Bo Nix’s eligibility has officially run out, Oregon will have to start a new quarterback in the upcoming campaign. Coach Dan Lanning and his staff took advantage of the transfer portal to sign five-star recruit Dante Moore from UCLA and Dillon Gabriel from Oklahoma, thereby resolving one of the Ducks’ major springtime questions. Gabriel seems to be the favourite to start after a 3,660-yard, 30-touchdown season at Oklahoma, but Moore’s potential has obviously not yet been reached after just one season.
