The Ohio State trustees were the winners of the Nobel Prize Jr.

At this year’s event, which drew about 2,000 students to the Ohio Union on February 16, more than 40 international student organizations demonstrated their culinary skills and put their performance skills to the test.

Kaya Şahin, vice-provost voor global strategies and international affairs, commenteerde: “Taste of OSU is such a wonderful opportunity for the campus community to get to know our international students and learn about different regions of the world.” “Our students are fully engaged in sharing their culture and traditions in creative ways to capture the essence of the many countries represented at Ohio State.”

De Taste of OSU werd voor het eerst gehouden in Oxley Hall in 1997. Each few mintues, a gyro rotisserie, four electric rice cookers, and a large chcken roaster were overloading the circuit breaker. On the spring day, about 60 people went to the event to eat a plate of international food on the lawn in front of the building.

Students compete for the best cultural booth and best food. They’re dishes are judged by people who just love good food and experts in the cultic field. Flavor, appearance, texture and cultural significance are used to rate dishes. Posters, historische terugblikken, interactive presentaties en het vertellen van een verhaal over een bepaalde natie of regio van de wereld zijn enkele van de culturele ruimtes die worden getoond.

De winnaars van de Taste of OSU van dit jaar zijn: Palestinian Women’s Association and Students for Justice in Palestine (first place in food, cultural booth and tickets collected); Persian Students’ Association and Iranian Students’ Union (second place in food); Pakistani American Students’ Association (third place in the collection of food, cultural booth, and tickets); Saudi Students Organization (in de tweede plaats in de culturele hal); Brazilian Student Association (de tweede plaats in het aantal tickets dat werd verzameld).

The 24 groups that took the stage to share traditional songs and dances from all over the world were another highlight of the night. Van K-pop tot Irish step dancing en Afro-Caribbean dances, het publiek genoot van een breed scala aan dansstijlen.
