There are many less issues around the quarterback position for the Los Angeles Rams going into the 2024 offseason than there were the previous one. Although there still uncertainties over Matthew Stafford’s backup quarterback, there are many less doubts about Stafford.

Stafford was recovering from back and elbow problems at this time last year. It seemed doubtful that the Rams quarterback could play at the same level again in 2021 given his advanced age. The Rams brass was asking itself these same concerns as talks about selling him or even seeking to rework the deal he had signed the year before arose.

Stafford’s quarterback tape, which was undoubtedly among the best five in 2023, appears to have improved, and the quarterback-Rams relationship appears to be on the rise. Danny Heifetz of The Ringer examined each NFL team and evaluated each one’s quarterbacking situation. Heifetz described Stafford and the Rams as a wonderful second marriage.

“This pair dated in secret, avoiding the notice of their former lovers. However, as it happened, these two were intended to be together. In addition to winning a Super Bowl together right away in 2021, Stafford also appeared revitalized in 2023 with to great performances from running back Kyren Williams and receiver Puka Nacua. (To be honest, head coach Sean McVay also appeared revitalized.) Stafford finished the previous season as one of the finest quarterbacks in the NFL, and he looks to be a top pocket passer going into 2024 despite having to respond to inquiries about retirement throughout the offseason as he got ready to play again after suffering a spinal cord injury. Stafford and the Rams have a big season ahead of them in 2019. There will never be pressure like to that which existed in 2021. Stafford received his Super Bowl ring, something he never had in Detroit, when the Rams prevailed. After two years of marriage, Stafford and the Rams have already gotten what they want. Having said that, there will be considerable expectation to succeed and expand on Los Angeles’ successful 2023 season, which included a postseason appearance. In the event of a strong free agency class and draft, the Rams may wind up as the NFC West favorites. The Rams may find themselves the team with the bullseye on their back once more.

Last year, the Rams took a bit of a “reset” or “re-tool” year in which they ate a lot of dead money in order to make a push for a championship one last time with the current core of players. McVay and Snead would like to try and win one more Super Bowl with Cooper Kupp, Aaron Donald, and Stafford.
