At the ITA All-American Championship, Mississippi State advances to the main event in both the singles and doubles categories.
68 No. Tuesday saw Petar Jovanovic win two singles matches to earn a spot in the main draw of the competition. Jovanovic began the day by defeating Michael Heller of Duke 6-3, 7-6(1), and a few hours later, he crushed Sebastian Sec of Princeton 6-2, 6-1.
Jovanovic and partner Benito Sanchez Martinez finished Tuesday’s play by defeating Oliver Tarvet and Iiro Vasa of San Diego 7-6(4), 7-5, to earn a spot in the doubles main event.
Sanchez Martinez defeated Guillaume Dalmasso of Santa Clara 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-2 in the opening match of the day, however he was unable to advance to the main event.
On Wednesday, the Bulldogs will begin play in the first round of the main draw against No. 36 Dusan Milanovic. At 9 a.m., Milanovic, who received an automatic ticket into the main draw, will face Columbia’s No. 62 Max Westphal.
At noon, Jovanovic will face 38th-ranked Tadeas Paroulek of Baylor. At 2:30 p.m., he and Sanchez Martinez will play No. 47 Michael Heller and Jeffrey von Der Schulenburg of Virginia.
