Though the last whistle hasn’t gone, the Football Governance Bill won’t be enacted by this Parliament. In less than a day, 170+ supporting groups co-signed an open letter we created for FSA member supporter groups, demonstrating the bill’s continued bipartisan support. By the time May comes to a conclusion and June begins, that number had surpassed 200.
Key ideas included in this law would prevent future breakaway leagues, enhance financial sustainability, safeguard club legacy, and provide fans more influence over the management of their favorite teams and the game.
The measure was supported by football fans nationwide, especially members of the FSA, whose influence was important in shaping the legislation, and it had cross-party support.
Politicians are being urged by football enthusiasts to promise that they would include this bill in their manifesto and, if elected, to collaborate with the FSA in a new Parliament to bring legislation back for the first King’s Speech.
Kevin Miles (representing the Football Association) and Dame Tracey Crouch (chairing the Fan-led Review of Football Governance) co-signed the document.
