Nottingham Forest will offer £17m to sign 25-year-old who rejected Cooper in January
The Turkey international could be available for transfer in the coming weeks. Atalanta have made a decision on the player and Forest have been scouting the defender for some time.
Demiral is only 25-years-old and he’s also versatile. He has been known to operate at right-back during his career but is certainly more natural at the heart of the defensive unit.
It’s been claimed that Forest are now set to make a move by the Daily Mail. It’s believed that Steve Cooper wants to strengthen his rearguard and is still keen to sign Demiral this summer.
The 25-year-old penned a permanent deal with Atalanta last summer. He signed from Juventus where he was deemed surplus to requirements and made 28 appearances for the club in Serie A.
Demiral previously spent two seasons on loan with the Bergamo-based outfit. In total, he played 70 times in the famous black and blue but his days with the Serie A outfit could now be numbered.
The player earns £60,000-a-week and Forest are willing to part with £17 million to sign him ahead of the transfer window closing.
This would be a pretty useful signing made by the Reds. Other, much bigger clubs, have been linked with a move for the defender during previous transfer windows.
The Reds are a little bit light on central defenders. Felipe and Moussa Niakhate are injured, with Willy Boly, Joe Worrall and Scott McKenna the only options available right now.
Forest want another defender quickly. Demiral might need some convincing, however, considering he’s rejected a move to the City Ground before.

Henderson is heavily linked with a move to Nottingham Forest but Manchester United aren’t prepared to sanction a medical for the goalkeeper amid fears his injury could get worse
Manchester United aren’t willing to let Dean Henderson undergo a medical at Nottingham Forest as he looks to leave Old Trafford this summer.
The goalkeeper has been heavily linked with a permanent switch to the City Ground, where he spent last season on loan. Henderson was hit with an injury setback in February after he tore his thigh in January, which all but ended his campaign as a first-choice goalkeeper.
Any route to being United’s No 1 looks to be closed off with Andre Onana now arriving but United can still land a sizeable fee by moving Henderson on. Forest are keen to put the England international through a rigorous medical, which United fear could aggravate his injury, and as a result won’t sanction it, reports The Sun.
Both United and Forest are willing to let Henderson fully recover before any deal takes place. Steve Cooper’s side are therefore looking to complete a deal come the end of the transfer window with Arsenal’s Matt Tuner poised to make the move north to Nottingham.
The American has already completed his medical ahead of a £10m switch and could find Henderson providing him with competition later in the season. The United goalkeeper had a high reputation as he came through the ranks in Manchester, impressing during a lengthy loan spell at Sheffield United.
He returned to Old Trafford when there were calls for him to replace David de Gea, who was underperforming under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Spaniard retained the starting role however which left Henderson looking on from the bench with opportunities at a premium, and he quickly moved on last summer.
