Report: £23m Leicester man’s exit taking longer than expected, forcing Leeds target to stay put
The Sun reporter Alan Nixon has claimed on Patreon that Everton’s move for Leicester star Patson Daka is taking longer than expected – and it is delaying Leeds target Tom Cannon from finding a new club.
Daka, 24, is expected to be another departure at The King Power after the likes of James Maddison and Harvey Barnes – despite struggling, scoring just 15 goals in 74 games. Everton are keen on signing him.
Fresh from signing Jack Harrison, and as they continue to move for Willy Gnonto, Everton are looking to land Zambia ace Daka. But a move for the ex-Salzburg man is taking longer than previously anticipated.
Nixon recently said that Leeds – along with Preston, Stoke, Sunderland and Sampdoria all want Everton talent Cannon. Preston are likely to re-sign him on loan. But Leeds are keeping tabs on the £8m man.
Now, Nixon has a new update. Everton do not want to sell, or loan out Cannon without bringing in a new striker first. That looks like Daka but it is taking a while – delaying a move for Ireland U21 ace Cannon.
Everton are busy this summer, with Gnonto possibly set to join Harrison in the coming fortnight. They also need additions up top – with Neal Maupay struggling and Dom Calvert-Lewin constantly injured.
Ellis Simms has moved to Coventry. So, signing a new striker is key and Dyche is more than within his rights to prevent Cannon from going until a new signing is made. Cannon would be a top signing for us.
But it all hinges on Leicester and Daka. The Foxes are likely to want to keep £23m Daka – he is a very good player at this level. But he is yet to play a single minute this term. Movement expected very soon.

L’Équipe are reporting that AS Monaco are in negotiations with Championship side Leicester City over a move for Patson Daka (24).
It is no secret that Monaco are in the market for a striker. Even prior to Breel Embolo’s ACL injury, the Principality club were looking to add quality and depth to this area of the pitch. Kevin Volland also now looks set for a return to Germany, whilst Wissam Ben Yedder, who last week was charged with rape, has just one year remaining on his deal with Les Monégasques.
According to RMC Sport, Monaco have submitted an offer for Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun. However, this offer fell short of the Gunners’ hefty €50m evaluation. Whilst continuing talks with Arsenal over a move for the USMNT striker, Monaco have also begun discussions with Leicester over a move for Daka. The Zambian international striker, who joined the Foxes in 2021, would be interested in the move, according to L’Équipe.
