Sources: Nottingham Forest could now pull plug on Henderson deal

Nottingham Forest could be forced to move on from Dean Henderson in their pursuit of a first-choice goalkeeper, sources have told Football Insider.

A deal for Henderson, 26, is Forest’s number one priority following his loan spell at the club last term and the player is ready to return permanently.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Forest “could look at other targets” if the Red Devils continue to hold on to the England international.

Man United are not willing to let any goalkeepers leave the club amid uncertainty surrounding the future of David De Gea – who is out of contract on Friday (30 June).

It is believed that decision was taken as De Gea didn’t have the full trust of manager Erik ten Hag.

Henderson spent the 2022-23 campaign on loan at the City Ground and was the first-choice shot-stopper before an injury curtailed his season.

The England international kept six clean sheets in 20 games before suffering a thigh injury in January – but is expected to return in time for pre-season ahead of the 2023-24 season.

His Man United contract, which nets him a reported £100,000-a-week, is set to expire in June 2025.

According to Josh Kloke of The Athletic, TFC have not engaged in serious talks to extend Laryea’s one-year loan from Premier League relegation battle survivors Nottingham Forest.

While Waking The Red was not present at TFC’s matchday minus-1 training session on Friday, no comments about Laryea’s loan expiring today have surfaced from the club or from new interim manager Terry Dunfield.

The prospect of losing Laryea frightens many TFC supporters. How much worse might this season be if not for the Canadian international’s contributions?

If recent rumours swirling around Laryea’s future are to be believed, the Canadian soccer scene could witness a seismic shift, with the possibility of two dynamic talents, Laryea and Cyle Larin, lighting up the revered pitches of La Liga next season.

Laryea finds himself at a career crossroads, contemplating his European options, and personal ambitions, and now entertaining interest from the prestigious Spanish league in the middle of a complicated MLS season at his hometown club.

Currently on duty with Canada at the CONCACAF Gold Cup, Laryea started and was substituted in stoppage time in Tuesday night ‘s 2-2 draw with Guadeloupe at BMO Field. CanMNT play Guatemala Saturday night in Houston in their second group stage fixture.
