Former Wigan Athletic Loanee Completes Club Record Transfer
The 25-year-old spent the second half of last season with Wigan and was brought in with the goal of helping his side avoid relegation to League One, except that goal was unsuccessful.
The defensive midfielder began his career in France but had previous Non-League spells in England. However, in 2020 Tiehi moved to the Czech Republic to play for Slovan Liberec and Slavia Prague. He represents the Ivory Coast but has never made a senior appearance for his nation.
The Wigan spell
After joining the club on loan in January, Tiehi featured in 19 league matches for the club, only missing the opening game against Cardiff as he hadn’t trained with the squad. Out of these, he started 17 of those matches, proving to be a reliable figure for the club.
The 25-year-old will remain in England this season, after joining Rotherham United for a club-record fee, signing a three-year deal with the club. The player’s work permit has also been approved, meaning he is eligible to feature in this weekend’s Championship fixture against Sunderland.
What’s been said?
In the player’s announcement statement on the club’s website, they welcomed the midfielder back to England with a short message, which stated…
‘Everyone at the club would like to welcome Christ to the club and wish him all the best for his time here at AESSEAL New York Stadium.’
Writer’s View
I wasn’t able to watch too much of Tiehi last season, other than his performance against Coventry City. He controlled his position well when it mattered and looks to be a strong signing for the Millers.
Of course, it’s a blow to Wigan Athletic who I’m sure would’ve liked to have seen him back this season, but their relegation was always going to create an uphill battle.

Among the topics of conversation, the red card he was given at Fleetwood on Tuesday night for the ‘mis-use of technology’, Dion Charles’s suspension against Wigan, Wanderers’ 100 per cent start and whether he was concerned about the appearance of Stoke boss Alex Neil in midweek.
Bodvarsson, 31, is now available for selection ahead of this weekend’s clash against Wigan Athletic.
He played for the Trotters’ B team earlier this week against Huddersfield Town along with defender Eoin Toal, as detailed on the official club website.
Having Bodvarsson back is a big boost for Bolton as they look to continue their impressive start to the new season. He gives them another option in attack and another option to pick from.
The Iceland international, who has made 64 caps for his country so far, joined the club back in 2022 and has since made 48 appearances in all competitions and has found the net on 15 occasions.
Dion Charles is suspended for Saturday’s clash against North West rivals Wigan Athletic after being sent off against Fleetwood Town last time out which paves the way for another attacker such as Bodvarsson to step up. However, Ian Evatt will want to be careful with him and will only want to play him if he is 100% ready for action.
Bodvarsson is an experienced player in the Football League now and has been playing in England since 2016. Wolves first brought him over from FC Kaiserslautern and he has since gone on to have spells at Reading and Millwall.
Bolton have made a dream start to the campaign as they eye promotion to the Championship. They have won all three games and have nine points on the board.
Their next opponents Wigan have won two and drawn one of their first few fixtures so are unbeaten.
