Arsenal transfer news as West Ham United move for Emile Smith Rowe shut down

 

West Ham “insiders” have played down any interest in a late move for Arsenal playmaker Emile Smith-Rowe, according to Sean Whetstone.

The editor of 6foot2 shared via his Twitter account on 30 August that, despite reports in the Daily Mail [29 August] claiming the Hammers were among interested clubs, there is no interest at this late stage.

Smith Rowe was linked with a move to East London earlier in the transfer window, but recent interest from Chelsea has seen the talk around the Arsenal academy graduate spark back up as the window reaches its final days.

Despite his lack of match action in Arsenal’s title-challenging campaign last time out, largely caused by a series of injury issues, Smith Rowe is still highly regarded by many involved in the game and would provide some more creative spark to David Moyes’ team.

The 23-year-old’s breakout season came in 2021/22, when he made 33 Premier League appearances for the North London side, scoring ten goals and registering two assists as he showed real promise, but he went on to make just 12 league appearances last season

His ability to get on the ball and run with it to create opportunities for himself as well as his teammates would add a new dimension to the Hammers’ team, with expression and entertainment the key to his game.

Should West Ham decide to reignite their interest in the Arsenal academy graduate, they would once again face competition from Chelsea, who the Hammers already beat to the signing of Mohammed Kudus in recent days, despite a late approach from the Blues.
