Huddersfield Town set mission for Aaron Rowe after League Two loan confirmed

Terriers wide man Aaron Rowe is the latest youth product to depart the club this summer, leaving the club for a season-long loan at League Two side Crewe Alexandra.

Rowe has made 27 appearances in all competitions for Huddersfield Town since making his debut in the Premier League back in 2019, but just two of those outings have come since the end of what looked like a breakout season for the now-22 year old in 2020/21.

Capable of playing up and down either flank, Rowe had begun to establish himself under Carlos Corberan and memorably scored the opening goal in a victory away to Nottingham Forest that was crucial in helping Town avoid relegation that season. That remains the only Championship goal Rowe has scored to date.

Rowe suffered a lengthy injury lay-off that kept him out for most of the 2021/22 season and he has been unable to re-establish himself in the first-team since then, making a short appearance from the bench in each of the past two campaigns.

This will be Rowe’s second loan spell in the fourth tier after he spent the second half of last season at Stockport County but was again unable to force his way into an in-form side that was ultimately defeated on penalties by Carlisle United in the play-off final.

Town loan manager David Fox said: “We’ve all seen how much natural ability Aaron possesses, and he’s made an impact at first team level for the club in the past. That said, however, he needs to play regularly and recapture his form, fitness and what makes him such a compelling player on his day.

“There is no doubt that Aaron can be a fantastic asset, but he needs to show that with some consistency, and joining Crewe will hopefully give him the platform to do just that.”

Crewe have won one, drawn three and lost one of the League Two games so far this season as they look to build on finishing 13th last season as a newly-relegated side.

West Brom are set to be without Grady Diangana amongst others for their Championship clash with Huddersfield Town at The Hawthorn’s this weekend.

The 25-year-old remains sidelined with ligament damage in his foot, and has yet to make an appearance this season. Burnley and Leeds United are said to be interested in the attacker despite his lack of availability, and the Baggies could allow him to leave should the right offer come in.

Adam Reach and Daryl Dike are long-term absentees, and both are still recovering. Reach is dealing with a quad injury, and his hopes of returning to action were dashed in the summer when he suffered a problem against Burton Albion. Carlos Corberan has tipped him to come back stronger but for the time being he remains out.

Daryl Dike is another player that is nursing an injury, and is out with an Achilles problem which is likely to see him miss the rest of the year.

Former Liverpool defender Martin Kelly meanwhile is closing in on a return to training, and should he not appear in the 20-man squad at the weekend, then he should target the first game back after the international break.

Reyes Cleary, who has made six appearances for the club, is stepping up in his recovery from an injury that has kept him sidelined since April.

Huddersfield will be without Ollie Turton who is rehabbing from an ACL injury which he suffered earlier this year. He is targeting a return for the New Year, but has admitted that it has ‘been a struggle’ having required two surgeries.

Neil Warnock meanwhile still has question marks over the full fitness of Yuta Nakayama He has recovered from an Achilles problem, and has been playing for their ‘B’ team to help with his prospects of more action for the senior team.

Huddersfield this week signed Ben Wiles from Championship rivals Rotherham United for a ‘significant’ undisclosed fee and could give him his debut. David Kasumu could appear this weekend for Huddersfield, but Tom Lees will miss out and is likely to return after the international break.
