John Dempster admits a bad day for his Under-21 team cost them dearly when they lost to Ipswich Town in the Professional Development League.
City’s youngsters soon fell behind against Suffolk and ended the day with a 0-3 defeat.
Speaking after the loss, Dempster admitted such bad days are rare for the Under-21 team but urged his young players to learn from their mistakes.
So John, what do you think of this this afternoon?
It was a very disappointing afternoon.
I think Ipswich is part of a much superior team.
If you start a game like this, it’s going to be an uphill struggle.
The first five minutes are unacceptable.
I think they share more desires and desires than we do and it’s almost like we’re holding each other back a little bit.
I don’t know if it’s because of the heat or because he got up early, but there’s no reason.
The best team won today and this is clearly a return to normal for us.
We have to value the defense a little more.
We have a lot of interesting attacking players but as a team we have conceded too many goals and like I said the only credit today really goes to Ipswich because I think they were there from start to finish, and we weren’t.

Some of the defences you would expect to see in and around your box were not present today.
And like I said, the level of desire isn’t that far.
I think the more experienced under-21 players need to be responsible and show more leadership when preparing for the game and of course when stepping on the pitch.
However, looking at the big picture, the best players on the field today are not wearing blue shirts.
Does this give you something to watch and learn from during the week as we move on to the next one?

Yes, sure, of course, we’re going to remove those elements, sit down with the players and go through them to try to help them individually, but they also have to bear some responsibility for the outcome.
development and their own level of performance on the ground.
Like I said, today doesn’t happen that often.
But today we were too flawed
