Huddersfield Town hastily appoints the 52-year-old Swansea City figure to a key role
The summer transfer window is over and dusted but Huddersfield Town is still moving.
The Terriers appear to have taken an important step off the pitch to sign a new scouting manager at John Smith Stadium. As advertised on the club’s official website, Lee Maybury has taken on an influential role in Yorkshire.
Maybury, 52, joins Championship rivals Swansea City after running out of notice in South Wales. With Swans, he served as chief scout, a role in which he has extensive experience having held that position at Portsmouth, Stoke City and Burnley for many years. With the Potters, he worked alongside the Terriers athletic director, Mark Cartwright.
He replaces Emyr Humphreys, who left Huddersfield earlier this summer.
It was not Huddersfield Town’s busiest transfer window. They signed just four players, with Chris Maxwell, Ben Wiles, Delano Burgzorg (loan) and Tom Edwards (loan) coming in the summer.
As Head of Recruitment, Maybury will be responsible for overseeing the recruitment process at John Smith Stadium. It is hoped that in the coming months work can be done to identify potential winter additions after a quiet summer for the Terrier. Maybury’s experience as a scout will serve him well in his new role at Huddersfield. Hopefully his connections through the game and scouting experience can help Terriers identify some eye-catching additions as they look to avoid another fight to maintain their championship status.
Neil Warnock’s side are in 21st place after picking up 4 points from 5 games.

Maybury started work this week after completing a stint with the Welsh side and has more than 15 years of experience recruiting players from a number of Premier League and Championship clubs.
They include Stoke City, where Maybury worked as chief scout for seven years and enjoyed a successful working relationship with Town sporting director Mark Cartwright. He also held recruitment roles at Burnley and Portsmouth and ran successful businesses outside of football.

This is the second major appointment of the week at Town, who on Monday appointed David Wetherall to a new role as academy strategy adviser.
Cartwright says:
“We are delighted that Lee has joined the club from Swansea City this week.
“I was able to witness firsthand the quality of his work during our previous partnership at Stoke City.
“He’s one of the hardest working people I’ve ever worked with in football and we trust people’s judgment of how things are going. It is of vital importance.
“Lee and I are just one part of our hiring process. We really have a mix of qualitative and quantitative approaches, where our analytics team plays an equally important role. .
“With a combination of data, video footage and live work, we will present managers with the players that are best suited for our club and our team roles. “
