The Spanish side negotiate over Ipswich Town’s target after Manchester United leave
This follows a Daily Mail report claiming that Spanish side Real Betis are currently in talks to acquire the 25-year-old.
How is Tuanzebe’s current situation?
Having spent the academy level with Manchester United, Tuanzebe made 37 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils.
The defender was also loaned to Aston Villa, Napoli and then Stoke City, spending the second half of last season with the Potters.
During his time at Villa, Tuanzebe helped the club win promotion from the Championship to the Premier League, although he has been hampered by injury in recent years. With his contract at Old Trafford set to expire at the end of last season, United have decided not to renew his contract, meaning he is currently a free agent.
The centre-back has yet to find a new club, although he has been linked with a number of clubs over the summer, and as he currently has no team he could still be signed despite even though the transfer window is closed.
Now, however, it looks like Tuanzebe is close to securing a move to his next club, although it could see him leave England.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Ipswich is set to continue negotiating with Tuanzebe over a deal with the centre-back, after being contacted by the 25-year-old.
Tuanzebe previously worked with current Ipswich coach Kieran McKenna during the former Tractor Boys boss’ time at United’s academy. Now, however, it seems Ipswich isn’t the only ones looking to secure Tuanzebe’s service when the window closes.
According to this latest update, La Liga side Real Betis are currently in talks with Tuanzebe over a potential deal to bring the defender to Spain.
Having picked up seven points from the first four games of the season, Betis is currently seventh in the Spanish top-flight standings.
It is worth noting that newly promoted Premier League duo Sheffield United and Luton Town have expressed an interest in Tuanzebe over the summer.
Was Ipswich’s miss of Tuanzebe a blow? Surely Ipswich will be disappointed if they can’t buy Tuanzebe.
The centre-back is a solid choice at Championship level when fit, and the fact is that McKenna already knows he can get the best out of Tuanzebe if he moves to Portman Road.
However, Ipswich already has plenty of options at center back with Luke Woolfenden, Janoi Donacien, George Edmundson, Elkan Baggott and Cameron Burgess, so they might have the depth to get through without him.
Indeed, the fact that they have started the Championship season so well – 2nd in the table with 12 points from 5 games – can also give them confidence in their ability to sustain after promotion to this level, though unlikely. signed Tuanzebe.
As a result, while Ipswich’s failure to sign Tuanzebe may be disappointing, such an event may not be catastrophic. FIND OUT MORE
