BRIGHTON – Sydney Rauh just played golf. She is an extremely good golfer, which she only realized after consulting a scoring app during half of her match.
“I didn’t realize this was happening,” Rauh said. “I look and see that I’m 12 years old, and I’m trying not to think about it too much, to mess with my mind. But towards the end, I really started to shift into high gear and go all the way, because I knew it really happened.
“That” was the spin of her life, a 3 on par 75 that not only brought her into the 70s but deep into the 70s for the first time.
Great things like shooting 300 to break Livingston County records and beating a strong opponent at the Kensington Lake Activities Association pre-season tournament on Thursday at the Kensington Metropark Golf Course. The Bulldogs have flirted this season with a county record of 309, a record they set at the KLAA’s Lakes Pre-Conference Tournament on September 2, 2015 at Hartland Glen Golf Course.
It’s no surprise that this Brighton team, who is ranked number 1 in the first division, has surpassed that milestone.
The nice surprise of the day was the play by Rauh, whose previous career lowest score was 80. She averaged 83 in her first four tournaments this season, a marked improvement over with her first two years on the team. At the same tournament two years ago, shortly after leaving Las Vegas for Brighton, Rauh shot 98 to tie in 29th. On Thursday, his score finished third in one of the tournaments. Michigan’s premier golf tournament.
“I actually texted her on Tuesday night after a great (82) lap she had in Oakland Hills,” said Brighton coach Paul Parsell. “I said, ‘You are going to be a great player. Let’s continue like that.” I am very proud of her. She arranged it all. It’s a trend, it’s going in that direction.
“When she came from Vegas, she was acting in her 90s and 100s. Then she settled into the 90s as a freshman. Now we’re not even halfway through the season and she’s in her 70s. If your number 5 player shoots in the 70s, a lot can go wrong.
Rauh did not grow up in Brighton, but has a strong bond with her teammates, which has helped her begin to fulfill her potential as a golfer.
Rauh, who scored three straight points to nine points ahead: “We had a lot of fun and always pushed each other. “Even in practice and other things, we like being a team, but we’re also really good at challenging each other, so we’re always three shots apart.
“We’re so close. I can always come talk to
